*The included "Silent Softwares Installation.exe" file will silently extract the actual installer and creates a shortcut to it on the desktop.
*It is highly recommended that you only use this installer on a freshly installed Windows where you have not installed anything extra yet. Similar existing softwares will get installed over.
*I am not responsible for any lost or damages. Try this installer within a virtual machine first!
*Windows Vista & 7: UAC will needs to be turned off for this installer to work correctly.
*If "msvcr71.dll" is missing from your system the nice looking blue skin of the installer will not load properly, but installation will work. Download the dll it for free and put it in the "Windows\System32" folder,
DescriptionThis is an installer I created which includes 59 softwares that are mostly free or open source that can be selected individually to be installed silently (an automatic installation process without user's interaction needed). Most of the included softwares are freewares so you can download them elsewhere, this installer just help make installation faster in freshly installed Windows machine. A few softwares included are not free softwares: WMP11 which requires a genuine validated Windows, XP's 3D Pinball (this works with Vista and 7) and several bios needed for the game emulators. Otherwise there are no retails or sharewares included.
*Try not to run any programs during installation as it may interfere with the installation, don't try to install other softwares while running this installer.
*Ask.com toobar will not be installed.
*I promise there are no viruses or malwares included as I spent a lot of time and effort on this.
CompatibilitiesThe softwares included are compatible with Windows XP 32bit. I've also tested this on Vista and 7 32bit, a few softwares are not compatible with them and will not get installed, but should not cause any issues. I have not tested this on any 64bit Windows operating systems.
Vista and 7 incompatibles: IE8, WMP11, NET Framework 3.5SP1 and Daemon Tools 3.47 included are for XP only. You don't really have to uncheck them, they will simply not get installed. The .NET package will give you an error stating it can't extract itself.
XP SP2 incompatibilities: WMP11.
How to use this installer1. Open the included file (Silent Softwares Installation.exe) and it will silently extract the actual installer to the folder: "Program Files\Silent Softwares Installation" and creates a shortcut on the desktop. Therefore run it only once, you won't see any pop up dialog, but it is extracting silently. Wait a minute for the shortcut to appear because the file being extracted is 675mb. (Sorry for making this confusing, but I made it this way so the file can be slipstreamed to Windows XP easily via the "svcpack" or "runonce" methods.)
2. When you run the installer, once you get the part where you can click the on "Close" button is when the actual silent installation will begin. If you chose all included softwares it could take up to 15 minutes to install them all.
3. It is crucial that you leave the option "UnInstaller" checked every time you use this installer so it can automatically delete all temporary extracted files after installation. You get to choose where to extract temporary files. (If the temp files don't get deleted they may launch again when you use the installer the next time and reinstall themselves, even if you didn't select the same softwares this time.)
Notes about this installer:-Almost all softwares included are official installers set to 'silent install mode'. Some small softwares are custom packaged because they were originally distributed in zip files and not as installers.
-All softwares will be installed to the folder "Program Files", with the exclusion: Emulators (Desktop) and 'Application Configurations' (more info below).
-All shortcuts will be created either in 'Start -> Programs' menu or Desktop.
-NET Framework 3.5SP1 package: If you already have any of the following installed in an XP computer, then uncheck this option; .NET 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5, use Windows Update instead. This will take a couple minutes to install, the installer will seems to be idle for a moment.
-"Application Configurations": This will extract configuration files for several included softwares to the %appdata% folder (type %appdata% in 'Start -> Run' for the location) so when you run them for the first time they are already setup (to my personal preferences). Settings for the following softwares are included: Audacity, Avidemux, DVD Flick, Firefox, Foobar2000, iTunes, Opera, Pidgin, Safari, StaxRip, uTorrent and winFF.
Definitely uncheck this option if you are installing to a Windows that already has similar softwares installed so it won't overwrite your existing settings. See the full "Application Configurations" section below for further information.
Note: There can be a strange behavior if you are using computer in which the harddrive has two partitions (or more) and Windows is installed to both of each partition, the configuration files 'may' get extracted to the %appdata% of the second partition instead of the first.
Notes for included softwares:GoOo: Modified version of OpenOffice.org's suite for improved performance and Microsoft formats compatibility.
AbiWord: It extracts Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 installation files to the root folder of your drive that you have to delete manually.
Foxit Reader: It's a light alternative to Adobe Reader.
IE8 & WMP11: Will be able to uninstall from the system.
iTunes: Only iTunes will be installed and none of the other programs that was originally packaged with it.
Media Player Classic Home Cinema:
-I set it to work with FFdshow and 'QuickTime + Real' Alternative which means it can play most offline formats. To apply Media Player Classic files association, run it and press 'O' to go to Options (as I have hidden the menubar).
-Wide Gamut monitors: Ignore this if you don't own a wide gamut monitor. I added a custom shader called "adobe1998" which work with the "AdobeRGB1998" profile to convert its color to sRGB so the colors will be less saturated. First go to "Color Management" and apply "AdobeRGB1998" as your default color profile. Then go into MPC's "Options -> Playback -> Output" and change the "DirectShow Video" to 'VMR9 renderless' and "Surfaces" to '3D'. Then close and reopen MPC, when you play a video Right Click and choose "Shaders -> adobe1998", colors should be less saturated now. Of course every monitor has its own color profile, but I choose the AdobeRGB1998 as it is a popular standard. This shader setting will only work in Windows XP though.
Emulators: 3D drivers needed to be installed for your video card to run them.
Includes: MameUI32, NeoRAGEx, pcsx2, pSX, Raine, VirtuaNES, VisualBoyAdvance, WinKawaks, ZSNES
-pSX: This is a very accurate psx emulator (more than ePSXe) and it relies more on the cpu than graphic card so you will get good speed even on an integrated graphic card. Vista & 7: You'll need the file "d3dx9_26.dll" to run it.
-pcsx2: I don't know much about this emulator, you'll have to download extra plugins for it to work well. Make sure to set your default CDrom before you can launch a disc or image.
Introduction for included video encoders:
-----
AutoMen: It's easy to understand, but useful as well. Read about it here.
Avidemuxer: This is my second choice to StaxRip, this software a large amount of options and ways to configure your encodings and it can encode to a large amount of different formats. It is like a much better version of VirtualDubMod. It comes with a lot of options and filters. I don't use it as much as StaxRip because it have no option to save custom encoding templates, but it has default templates like FLV, iPod and PSP. Can be a little confusing to beginners because it does not provides an extension for the video when you goes to save it.
DeVeDe & DVDFlick: Both are easy to use for creating DVD videos, but DVDFlick can also burn them for you.
Handbrake: I don't like it and it has problems detecting some video formats, but included it because it seems popular.
StaxRip: This is the best x264 encoding software I've used. I uses the x264's triple-pass encoding for extremely high quality compression. But it helps to have some prior knowledge about x264 encoding, you can check out this excellent explanation for x264's encoding options.
WinFF: This is a very useful batch encoder for portable devices. It have templates for devices such as Blackberry, iPod, PSP, Rockbox and more. You can easily convert an entire TV series by just adding them, choose the right template for your device and click convert. If you also installed the "Application Configurations" I enabled the 'additional options', but all you have to do is choose a template and it will control the right format, video size, bitrates, etc.
VobSubRipper: It's a small tool that can easily rip subtitles from DVDs. The link to it is "VSRip" in the Start -> Programs menu.
Applications Configurations-Various Applications:
Contains minor settings for: Audacity, Avidemux, DVD Flick, Foobar2000, Firefox, iTunes, Opera, Pidgin, Safari, uTorrent and winFF;
Firefox:
-------------------------------
-The included settings forces Firefox to always load from a single profile called "user.default". To re-enable Firefox to run multiple user profiles: START -> Run, type: %appdata%, go to the folder "Mozilla\Firefox", open "profiles.ini" and change "StartWithLastProfile=0" to "1".
included addons; Adblock Plus, Hide Menubar (right click on navigation bar to enable the menu bar)
included, but disabled: Speeddial, Tab Sidebar (to use it, in menu bar select 'View -> Sidebar -> Tab Sidebar'), "Noscript" (make sure to enable the status bar to use it)
themes: Chromifox Basic, MacOSX, Vista Aero (IE8 look-a-like)
-"gfx.color_management.mode" set to 1 (helpful for wide gamut monitors)
-------------------------------
iTunes: EQ and auto syncing off, 'error correction' on for CD ripping
pidgin: turned on addons; autoaccept (still have to enable it per buddy), buddy state notifications, offline message emulation, text replacement (warning: it will correct your grammar)
Opera: bunch of skins, "urlfilter.ini" included to block advertisement (download the updated list)
Spybot: with 2009.07.15 definition
uTorrent: encryption on, randomize port each start, "ipfilter.dat" 2009.07.10 (download the updated list)
-foobar2000 plugins & encoders: This extracts to "Program Files\foobar2000". Plugins (kernal stream, asio, wasapi, last.fm, soundtouch, etc) and encoders (FLAC 1.2.1, Lame MP3 3.98.2, Nero AAC 1.3.3).
The foobar2000 settings contained in the "Various Apllications" option are set to know the location of those encoders. Also its set to convert one song at a time, you can change it back to default by: Preferences -> Advanced -> Tools -> Converter -> Thread count = 0.
StaxRip Configurations:
-----
This extracts to "Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\StaxRip" or for Windows Vista & 7: %localappdata%. When you run StaxRip for the first time it will ask where to save its settings, click on the first option "User" and it will point to location mentioned.
The StaxRip server no longer works so you may have to manually download some of its needed components and manually point to their location. I have included many downloaded components in the "%localappdata%\StaxRip\Downloads" folder so you should likely be able to encode right away. But whenever StaxRip ask you to get a required component, here is an example how:
For XVID encoding: 'VirtualDubMod' is needed which I forgot to extract, but you can find it in "Downloads" folder, extract it and then in StaxRip go to "Tools -> External Applications -> Misc -> VirtualDubMod" and click on 'Browse' to find the location of 'VirtualDubMod.exe'. I didn't thought about this since I don't encode in XVID anymore.
