University of Santo Tomas guns for back-to-back crowns and a fifth title overall when it tackles Adamson University in Game Two of their best-of-3 titular showdown for the Shakey’s V-league Season 6 second conference diadem at The Arena in San Juan City Tuesday.
The Tigresses posted a tournament-high 21 blocks, six coming from skipper Aiza Maizo and five from her “Twin Tower" partner Maika Ortiz, to beat the Lady Falcons, 25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, Sunday and move within a win from the title.
“Kailangan lang siguro mas maitaas pa namin yung intensity ng laro namin kung gusto talaga naming manalo," said UST coach Cesael de los Santos, referring to his wards’ poor reception that allowed the Lady Falcons to snatch the second frame of Game One.
“Wala namang problema sa defense namin kasi so far consistent naman yung aming blocking. Yung intensity lang talaga kailangang ma-maintain kung hindi man maitaas pa," added de los Santos who’s eyeing his second title as mentor since taking over the chores from long-time mentor Gus Sta.Maria.
Aside from Maizo and Ortiz, de los Santos will again lean on his veterans Ma. Angelie Tabaquero, setter Rhea Dimaculangan, guest player Roxanne Pimentel and rookie Maruja Banaticla in their mission to sweep the final series.
On the other end, Adamson coach Dulce Pante will rely on her team captain Angela Benting who was handcuffed by UST’s solid net defense in the opener, together with spikers Jill Gustilo and Paulina Soriano to force a winner-take-all Game Three.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University eyes a sweep of its own third place series against San Sebastian College, which it beat in Game One, 25-22, 25-13, 20-25, 12-25, 15-13, behind the splendid spiking prowess of guest player Rachel Ann Daquis (29 hits).
